Most studio drum machines, keyboards, gear, including microphones, guitars, synthesizers, and effects processors, may be connected through extra eight balanced analog inputs. Each microphone input also includes a back panel to insert outboard gear before the analog to digital conversion. Each microphone input has a 20 dB pad and independently switchable 48V phantom power. MOTU's Soft Clip feature provides additional security. Two front-panel microphone/guitar inputs have high-quality preamps as well as an overload protection V-Limit hardware limiter. The interface is equally appropriate for the studio and the stage, and it can also work as a standalone mixer without a computer connection, including effects such as reverb, EQ, and traditional compression. The interface has eight 192 kHz analog recording and playback channels, 16 ADAT optical digital I/O (8 channels at 96 kHz) channels, stereo S/PDIF, MIDI I/O, word clock, two headphone connectors, and stereo XLR main outs. Up to six Thunderbolt devices, such as monitors and hard drives, can be daisy-chained together, with the audio interface at the end of the chain. The MOTU 828x Professional 28x30 Audio Interface coupled with Thunderbolt Technology is a 1RU 19" rack-mountable digital audio interface that can connect to your 32- or 64-bit Mac or PC computer through Thunderbolt 1, Thunderbolt 2, or USB 2.0.
